This year in Geneva, we were treated to an evolution of the Luminor Due that comes as a 38mm automatic watch, and which is the smallest Panerai to date. When I wrote about it from Geneva earlier this year, I knew that I would want to take this one for a spin should the opportunity present itself, which just so happened to be the case this spring.PAM00943 (aka: PAM 943, PAM943) Name: Luminor Due 45 3 Days Automatic Date Stainless Steel / Grey. Movement: Panerai caliber P.4001. Additional 12 Hour Hand (fixed), Additional 24 Hour Hand (fixed), Hours, Minutes, Small Seconds | Date. Produced: 2017. Unmistakably inspired by the styling of the original Luminor, the Panerai Luminor Due is a contemporary reinterpretation of that classic model from the ’50s. The new version has a slimmer case and a modern in-house movement with a micro-rotor for automatic winding. The Luminor Due launched in 2016 with two different sizes, an automatic 45mm and a manually wound 42mm. Now there's an even smaller Luminor, and it happens to be the smallest watch Panerai has ever made. It's also automatic, with three days of power reserve.

In 1971, Rolex introduced the very first version of the Explorer II: the reference 1655. At the time of its release, Rolex watches were not regarded as the status symbols that they are today, and the Explorer II 1655 was aimed specifically at speleologists, intended to be much more of a 'tool watch' than a luxury item.
